1. Do you research
 Read as many books and internet sites as you can getting as much info as you need to know. It's so much easier taking on a pet when you know about them.


2. Time to go shopping
 You will need to have everything prepared and bought for before you get the Rats. When they come home they need to be able to go straight to their new home.

Below is a list of everything you need to buy:

  • Cage and Cage accessories - See Housing section
  • Bedding - See Housing section
  • A pet safe cage cleaner
  • Food and Treats - See Food section
  • Shampoo
  • Quick drying towel
  • Soft brush
  • Books - Not a must, but can be useful for reference.

    • Where's it all going to go?
     You now need to decide what room your are going to keep that Rats in. They like being able to see humans but don't need to be in your main throughfare in your house. The best idea is to look for a room that is already pretty much rat-proofed such as a conservortory or bathroom.
